Kolkata is well known for its rich tradition in Terracotta Craft. Terracotta refers to the art of creating objects from clay and Kolkata has long been noted as being home to highly skilled artisans who create amazing figurines, idols and sculptures using this medium.
One of the oldest forms of Bengali art, Terracotta tiles have long been an important decorative feature at religious sites like temples. Now these intricately-carved tiles can be found as products for home decor such as trays, pen holders, flower pots and tiles etc.
Kolkata is also home to some of India's finest textile artisans, who produce beautiful textiles such as weaving, embroidery and block printing, which can be seen in their stunning textile production here. Muslin, jamdani and baluchari sarees are among the most favoured pieces produced here.
