An ancient temple steeped in history and devotion
Rarheswar Shiv Mandir boasts nearly one millennium of history dating back to its establishment by Maharaja Ballal Sen of the Rarh Dynasty around 1200 A.D, when this region was known as Rarh Desh. This revered temple is home to "Rarheshwar Shiva Linga," an important sacred relic.
Protected by the Archaeological Survey of India under its Archaeological Act of 1958, this temple stands as a testament to ancient craftsmanship; constructed using sandstone and laterite materials and featuring a sizable Shiva lingam in its inner sanctum.
Saptharath Temple, originally lime-plastered, stands out from other local temples with its unique Sikhara and contemporary sharp corners that set it apart. The lush green surroundings add further beauty, while Lord Shiva is worshipped here through offerings of bluebells, china roses, and kolke flowers at his Shivalinga that is adorned with sandalwood tilaks. The Shivalinga reflects an austere spiritual atmosphere that creates a profoundly spiritual atmosphere within this sacred space.
Legend holds that Lord Shiva appeared in a dream and suggested building Rarheswar Shiv Mandir to ease a king's illness. Following this advice from above, Rarheswar Shiv Mandir came into being.
