A veritable gem in the crown of the Himalayan landscape, Tiger Hill, at an elevation of 8,482 feet (2,590 meters) offers an unparalleled view of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest and Mount Kanchenjunga. The hill is renowned for its spectacular sunrise. As the first rays of light kiss the peaks, Kanchenjunga and Everest emerge, bathed in a golden glow.
Tiger Hill provides a 360-degree panorama that stretches from the snow-capped Himalayas to the lush green valleys below. It’s a canvas where nature’s grandeur unfolds. The crisp mountain air and the vastness of the landscape create an otherworldly experience.
Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak, dominates the scene. Its icy slopes and jagged ridges leave viewers spellbound and utterly captivated. Peeking over Kanchenjunga’s shoulder – and standing head and shoulders above all else - is the world’s highest mountain: Mount Everest. The distance between them—172 kilometres (107 miles)—adds to Everest’s mystique.
Given its stunning views of the sunrise, in peak season, there is always a throng of people making their way up – and traffic jams are not uncommon. Arrive early, around 3:30 am, to secure a spot. The journey up the incline is part of the adventure. On the way back from Tiger Hill, you can stop by Batasia Loop, Ghum Monastery and the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary.
