A sanctuary steeped in wisdom
With inscriptions all around, Gita Bhawan is also home to a great library, with shelves filled with books on Hindu literature, Gita Adaptations, and Ramayan and Mahabharata versions all printed at the Gita press. Beyond that, the library is also home to the books on yoga and yoga positions, spirituality and many more. Owing to its history of 88 years one of the most fascinating things this library holds are the manuscripts that connect the aspects of time and show one the journey of books from handwritten to printed, from fragile copies to hardcovers. More than the books, the Bhawan also offers studies and research opportunities for scholars to study and understand the Gita and the Hindu puranas and their significance, and practice the teachings of Gita - attracting yogis and spiritual practitioners from all around the world to attain this knowledge and celebrate the Gita.
A hospitality retreat
The historically old Gita Bhawan, which is also known as the Guru Shri Ram Sukh Daasji Ashram as an ode to Guru Shri Ram Sukh Dasji, is not an ordinary temple place to visit. It's also an Ashram comprising 1000 rooms for devotees of Mother Ganga to stay and enjoy the true essence of Rishikesh and the Ganga, and have a full experience of the culture and space.
On a minimal charge or sometimes even free the place offers great hospitality to all the guests who come to see the river Ganga and enjoy its beauty. To simply start this experience is the library that comprises books and a bookstore as well - but there is more to it. For starters there is a satsang hall where every day, saints give advice, narrate God's numerous stories, meditate, sing bhajans, dance or remember God, and all the visitors are encouraged to participate in this to strengthen their bond with the almighty and also add to their knowledge of Hindu religion and culture.
