Highlights
Deekshabhoomi, Dhamma Chakra Stupa, Central Museum, Ambagarh Fort, Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir
Start day 1 of the Nagpur sojourn with a plunge into its remarkable cultural heritage. So, the first stop will be the sacred Buddhist monument, Deekshabhoomi, where you will see the largest stupa erected in the world, the Dhamma Chakra Stupa. It is where Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar converted to Buddhism and is a prevalent spot of Buddhist pilgrimage. Devotees usually visit the place on 14th October, the day of conversion, or during the Mass Conversion Ceremony Day (also called the Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din).
Next, you will tour the Central Museum or the Ajab Bangla, which gives an insight into the city’s historical treasures. Established in 1863, Central Museum is India and Maharashtra’s oldest museum that houses vital artifacts. As the day progresses, you will head to a beautiful architectural marvel from the 12th century, Ambagarh Fort, which belonged to the Gondwana Kings but was acquired by Raja Raghuji Bonsle. It was a quintessential strategic point controlled by Indian freedom fighters and is associated with India’s freedom struggle. You can stop by any popular restaurant to indulge in local delights like Varhadi Aloo Bonda and Saoji Chicken. End the day with a visit to the Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ram and Lord Shiva, and Hindus from around the country visit it.
