You can also find Rajasthani miniature paintings that date back to India’s partition. Stop at the Capitol Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site designed by architect Le Corbusier. Spread over an area of 100 acres, it is a prime example of Chandigarh’s architecture. Next, head to Rock Garden, a sculpture garden for rock enthusiasts founded by Nek Chand Saini, who started building this garden in 1957 during his spare time.

Begin the day with travel to the Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary, a 3600-hectare nature preserve in Chandigarh’s Sivalik Hills. You will need an entry pass from the Forest Department Office to enter this sanctuary. The sanctuary hosts several endemic herbs, trees, and other plants. You can also spot a rich diversity of wildlife. Stroll around Sukhna Lake, a reservoir at the Himalayas’ foothills. You can enjoy boating here and spot migratory birds during the winter months. The lake also attracts fishing enthusiasts. End the day with a visit to the Parrot Bird Sanctuary, a bird sanctuary which is a primary habitat for 100s of parrots. Commence the day with a visit to the Naina Devi Temple, one of the 51 shaktipeethas associated with Goddess Durga. It is the spot where Goddess Sati’s eyes fell. Next, travel to the Mansa Devi Temple, a pivotal shrine for worshipping Mansa Devi or Shakti. Continue the spiritual journey with a visit to the Chandi Devi Temple situated on the Chandigarh-Kalka highway. Chandigarh gets its name from this temple. Conclude your spiritual journey with a trip to the Nada Sahib Gurudwara, which lies on the banks of the Ghaggar River. It is the spot where Guru Gobind Singh paused while travelling from Paonta Sahib to Anandpur Sahib following the 1688 Bhangani Battle.

Start the day with a visit to the Zakir Hussain Rose Garden, a botanical garden spread over 30 acres. It houses 1600 rose species and is dedicated to Zakir Husain, India’s former president. Beyond roses, you can spot many trees holding medicinal value, such as camphor, Harar, Behera, bel, and more. Next, travel to Pinjore Gardens or the Yadavindra Gardens. Built by Fidai Khan, it is a 17th-century garden and a prime example of the Mughal garden architectural style. Continue your journey with a visit to the Bougainvillea Garden, one of the city’s most beautiful gardens. Set up in 1976, the Bougainvillea Garden has sixty-five different bougainvillaea varieties shaped in varied forms. End the day with a tour around the Cactus Garden, Asia’s largest succulent botanical garden. Spread over seven acres, the Cactus Garden helps conserve and preserve this endangered species.
