A serene lake and its floating islands

Laknavaram Lake, situated near the Laknavaram village around 70 kilometres from Warangal is a well-known tourist attraction known for the dense greenery embracing it. Located amidst vegetation it is an ideal place for a peaceful refuge. Its scenic beauty has popularised it among locals and tourists. Visitors are fascinated to see the collection of floating islands, which aren’t floating but create such an unmissable sight due to a rather interesting phenomenon. The site has an accumulation of undergrowth and soil on top of the swamped land which creates the floating effect.

This place is famous for the number and sizes of these islands which add to the uniqueness. The islands demonstrate the interconnectedness between natural resources; they serve as a habitat for various plants and animals, facilitating and maintaining the biodiversity of this spot. Nature admirers certainly enjoy this spectacle; the spot leaves the nature seeker in you completely satisfied.

The availability of housing, resorts and other accommodation facilities is another opportunity for you to completely experience every part of the lake destination. You can further enjoy yourselves with paddle or motorboat rides. The boating facility lets visitors explore the lake while taking in all of its green surroundings. All the available facilities will leave you satisfied and content.

A hidden oasis of tranquillity and wonder

Nestled within a secluded paradise, the Lakhnavaram Lake stands as a testament to nature's artistry and human ingenuity. This magnificent body of water emerged from the union of three narrow valleys, each now embraced by a modest embankment while majestic hills serve as their natural guardians. The lake's isolated setting offers you the luxury of solace from hustle and bustle of everyday life.

As you approach this hidden gem, you'll be greeted by a landscape teeming with lush and crystal-clear streams, painting a picture of abundant natural beauty. The crown jewel of this enchanting scene is the suspension bridge - a marvel that seems to float above the water, inviting adventurers to cross its span and discover the mysteries of the lake's central islet. For taking in lake's peaceful embrace, boat rides are available, gliding you across mirror-like waters to the most secluded corners of this aquatic wonderland.

Intricacy that survived the ages

The lake and its surroundings are immersed in the rich history of the Kakatiya dynasty. The origin of the lake dates back to the rule of the Kakatiyas. Under their rule, the architecture and infrastructure development were very well-known and flourishing. The lake and temple are an example of it. The lake was built with the initiative to provide water for the improvement and facilitation of agriculture. It was a vital water source for supporting the lives of the locals. Kakatiya rulers are well known for undertaking and building various water resources such as lakes, ponds, and reservoirs to lessen the impact of droughts and low rainfalls.

These vital infrastructures have been proven beneficial since their ages. Building such water sources improves the living conditions of the people. Laknavaram Lake was built after digging up natural land and turning it into a reservoir for preserving rainwater. The location of the lake was set up in such a place that it allows easy storage of water from the nearby streams and rivers. This strategic move enabled the secure supply of water to the surrounding regions. This ensured that the fertility of the land and production supply was well-maintained.

The control over the lake changed over time with different rulers, administrations and colonisation, but each time the Laknavaram Lake was well maintained, ensuring the lake provided a vital source of water. The Lake has always been an important spring for meeting the agricultural demands and sustaining life. The lake is a destination enriched with history, culture, success and most importantly an example of excellent management. If the lake continues to be well-maintained, our future generation will also be able to revel in its beauty.

The curse of the creator

According to locals, the lake was created by Sage Agastya, a well-known figure in Hindu mythology, known for his spiritual powers. It is said that while travelling, he came across this beautiful scene and decided to create a lake to amplify its beauty further. It has also been said that the sage cursed basic, ill-intentioned mortals, preventing them from witnessing the beauty. Only people with pure hearts and intentions can witness the view.

Well, there is another popular story revolving around a hidden treasure buried deep underwater. A rich merchant wished to hide his wealth and decided to hide it in the lake, to protect it. Unfortunately, he failed to retrieve it since he passed away and the location of the treasure was long forgotten with time. Some believe the treasure still lies in the water; only the brave and daring look for it.
