A tale of divine intervention

In a country like India where faith plays an integral part in its rich culture, you’ll often come across intriguing stories about Gods and Goddesses. Bannari Amman is no different. According to popular folklore, it is believed that during the year 1954, a military officer of Indian descent stationed in Bannari would frequently visit the temple. On one such day he found himself standing outside a locked temple, disappointed and disheartened. When he called upon the deity with sincere devotion and heartfelt prayers, he is believed to have witnessed a radiant glow emerging from the sanctuary. This enduring narrative of divine communion has been a part of the temple’s rich chronicles. Come and explore many other legends surrounding the Goddess retold wonderfully by the local devotees.

From thick woodlands to a divine paradise

Three hundred years ago, the Bannari village existed in oblivion. Enveloped by the thick wilderness of Dhandanyakkan Forest, barely anyone knew about this tiny settlement. As time passed by, it gained popularity owing to the Bannari Amman Temple. So much so that it has now transformed into an important landmark of the state. The natural beauty of this woodland region continues to exude its inherent allure and serves as a habitat for a multitude of fauna, from elephants, feral swine, ursines, cervids, lagomorphs, primates to avian peafowls.
