Primarily serving as a sanctuary for conserving and safeguarding tigers, it also provides home for endangered aquatic creatures, amphibians, reptiles, birds of prey, mammals, as well as six indigenous communities. Perched between 350 metres and 2,400 metres above sea level, this reserve takes you on a voyage of unforgettable experiences, exclusive and enigmatic.

A promise to protect and preserve

What makes Anamalai Tiger Reserve special is the nature of its glorious purpose. Which is to safeguard Bengal Tigers. This expansive ecosystem supports over 25 stunning large felines – an evidence of its remarkable ecological resilience. But that’s not all there is. Nilgiris are home to more than just tigers. Their rich biodiversity includes a diverse mix of wildlife - from Indian Elephants, Indian Leopards, Nilgiri Tahrs, Lion-tailed Macaques, Gaurs, Nilgiri Langurs, Sambar Deer and Sloth Bears to rarer species such as Malabar Spiny Dormices. The abundance of birdlife that inhabits this location will delight birdwatchers and ornithologists alike. Commonly seen are Teals, Ducks, Quails, Jungle Fowls, Hornbills, Asian Barbets, Hawk Eagles and Kingfishers to name just a few. This forest reserve is also home to amphibians and reptiles such as snakes, lizards, frogs, and turtles. Along with the fauna, one can witness an impressive diversity of flora - over 2000 identified plant species have already been recorded. Another intriguing fact about this Reserve is that it felicitates the peaceful coexistence of six indigenous communities – each maintaining their own unique culture.

A day filled with wonders

As you enter the reserve, the anticipation to hear the powerful roar of the mighty beast overcomes you. And behold; you don’t just hear one, but you witness it in all its glory. It’s truly exceptional how a Reserve designated by the government in 2008 to safeguard the diminishing numbers of tigers has now become a landmark. A landmark that offers many wonders. A caution to nature lovers. There are high chances you will lose all track of time while exploring this natural haven. Go on a wildlife expedition, trek through the vast expanse, or just set up a tent to soak in nature at its best.
