A tale of two temples

Just a scenic 22-kilometer drive from the regal city of Udaipur awaits a hidden treasure – the Sahastrabahu Temples, also known as the Sas Bahu Temples. Legend has it that the original name of the temples, Sahastrabahu, meaning ‘one with a thousand arms’, refers to Lord Vishnu. However, over time, this name morphed into the more easily pronounced ‘Sas Bahu,’ which translates to ‘mother-in-law’ and ‘daughter-in-law’ respectively.

Located in the village of Nagda, the complex consists of two main temples – the larger Sas temple and the smaller Bahu temple. Don't miss the remaining shrines within the complex. One particular shrine on the northeast side is especially captivating, featuring a beautiful stone spire. Look closely at the niches within its walls, where you'll find images of Brahma, Shiva, and Vishnu.
