The garden of the maidens

Situated in the northern part of Udaipur and located just below the embankment of the Fateh Sagar Lake, Saheliyon Ki Bari, or Garden of the Maidens, is an ornate garden complex that stands as an exemplar of regal aesthetics merged with natural beauty.

The history of Saheliyon Ki Bari is rooted in the indulgence and care of royalty for their beloved. Constructed in the 18th century by Maharana Sangram Singh, the garden was designed as a peaceful retreat for the Queen of Udaipur and her maidens. It was a gift of leisure where they could escape the protocols of the royal court and enjoy moments of privacy and relaxation amidst fountains, lotus pools, marble pavilions, and more.

A lush landscape

The garden’s popularity stems from its mesmerizing design and layout, which include lush lawns, shady groves, and an array of fountains that once were fed by the lake. The architecture features marble artistry, with kiosks and pavilions lining its paths. Intricate sculptures and inlaid stones decorate the fountains, while blooming flowers and well-maintained greenery enhance the garden's age-old charm, making it a popular site for visitors seeking tranquility and beauty.

The gravity-fed fountains!

An interesting fact about Saheliyon Ki Bari is that the garden's fountains operate without the need for a pump. They are gravity-fed from the Fateh Sagar Lake, which is a testament to the advanced engineering skills of the era in which they were constructed.
