Geographical marvel, historical elegance

Jaisamand Lake, also known as Dhebar Lake, is an impressive landmark situated approximately 58 km from Udaipur, Rajasthan. ‘Jaisamand’ means 'Ocean of Victory,' which reflects its grand scale and the ambition behind its creation. The lake, with a maximum depth of 102 feet and a circumference of 48 km, was a feat of engineering and visionary leadership that continues to impress to this day.

Known for being the second-largest artificial lake in Asia, Jaisamand Lake covers an area of 36 square kilometres, stretches 14 kilometres long and 9 kilometres wide, and presents a breathtaking vista of water surrounded by lush greenery and historical edifices.

The gold standard

Constructed in 1685 by Maharana Jai Singh during the building of a dam on the Gomati River, Jaisamand Lake was initially the world's largest artificial lake. On its inauguration day, Maharana Jai Singh celebrated by distributing gold equivalent to his own weight.

Jaisamand Lake offers more than just stunning scenery. Immerse yourself in its royal legacy with the two summer palaces of Rana Jai Singh – Hawa Mahal and Ruthi Rani ka Mahal – located on the northern shore. Imagine the cool breezes wafting through Hawa Mahal (meaning ‘Palace of Winds’) as the queens enjoyed the tranquillity of the lake surrounding them on all sides. But wait, there's more! Jaisamand Lake boasts three distinct islands. Explore the island inhabited by the Bhil Mina tribe, offering a glimpse into their unique way of life. For a touch of luxury, Jaisamand Island Resort awaits on another island, known for being one of the most expensive and luxurious resorts in Asia.

History buffs, take note! The dam on the riverbank boasts two captivating features. Admire the six ornately carved chattris (cenotaphs) and the temple dedicated to Narmadeshwar Swaroop, a form of Lord Shiva. Don't miss the impressive carved elephant statue with its trunk raised high, adding to the majesty of the lake.
