A regal vision of water conservation
Constructed first in 1678 under Maharana Jai Singh, Fateh Sagar Lake was later named and expanded by Maharana Fateh Singh, a later ruler of the Mewar kingdom. The lake is a testament to the vision of these rulers, who foresaw the need for water conservation and created this reservoir to ensure their city remained lush and fertile through dry spells.
The trinity of islands
The lake’s deep blue waters are spread across an area and surrounded by the green of the Aravalli hills, providing a picturesque setting that is both peaceful and invigorating. It is especially renowned for its layout, featuring three distinct islands, each of which contributes to the lake’s popularity. The largest island is developed into a lush public park named Nehru Park, accessible by boat, which is a perfect spot for a leisurely day out amidst nature. The second island, converted into a public park with impressive water-jet fountains, is a visual delight, while the third island is home to the Udaipur Solar Observatory, which is considered the best in Asia.
