One of Mother Nature’s rarest works

When you hear the words Desert and Park together, you know you have signed up for something extraordinary. Jaisalmer’s Desert National Park promises no less. Stretched across 3,000 sq km between Jaisalmer and Barmer districts, this unique destination offers visitors an unforgettable natural spectacle featuring rolling sand dunes, jagged rocks, and salt lakes. Creating a striking contrast to the lush green forests that are often associated with National Parks. One major highlight of the Park is the fact that one will come across many unique and fascinating species of flora and fauna flourishing in this harsh environment. Experience an impressive population of camels, black bucks, chinkaras, desert foxes as well as the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard. Seeing them thrive in a safe natural haven is sure to capture your heart. Winter months turn the Desert National Park into a haven for both migrating birds and nature enthusiasts. A visit to this park is also a great opportunity to discover the region's rich cultural heritage, with many ancient ruins and traditional villages within its boundaries. Another amazing feature of this park is that the dunes here can reach up to 200 meters in height. Making it a must-visit destination for all desert safari enthusiasts. Summer months are perfect for camel rides through the dunes, while winter is perfect for Jeep safaris.

Guardian of the Great Indian Bustard

The significance of this park becomes even more great when you realise it is home to the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard, one of the heaviest flying birds. Only about 100 remain in the wild, with 70 living around Desert National Park. The park has taken upon itself the noble task of preserving and protecting these majestic birds. Remarkably, conservation efforts here are led by its first female forest ranger who shows unwavering commitment towards protecting this beautiful bird species.

Beyond the park

While the Desert National Park will enrich you with its many facets, the nearby attractions will further add to the charm. Take some time out to explore the various Forts and Havelis near the park that capture the essence of this region perfectly.
