Embellished with gold leaves and precious ornamentations
Sunehri Kothi traces its beginnings to the prominent age of the Rajput kings who ruled over the princely state of Jaipur with unequalled elegance and splendour. Built as a sign of the rulers’ treasures and power, the royal residence was popular for its opulent decor and lush yards as well as splendid artwork, making it the label "Sunehri Kothi" or "Golden Palace." The tales have it that the royal residence was embellished with gold leaves and precious ornamentations, casting an extravagant radiance that might be seen from miles around– a testimony to the popularity and prosperity of the erstwhile kingdom.
A palace that glows the sun's rays
As you step into the grand halls of the Sunehri Kothi, you will be welcomed by a spectacular embrace of imaginative refinement and architectural finesse. As decorated are the interiors of the “mahal”, the exteriors do it justice with their opulent shine. The mahal was constructed with red sandstone and marble with countless mirrors placed in a way that when the sun's rays enter, the whole palace lights up. Numerous minuscule mirrors are placed on the walls, forming a far-fetched pattern and lending an awe-inspiring effect. The hall is built in such a manner that even when a single ray of sunlight enters in, it gets replicated in the mirrors, while the entire hallway gets illuminated.
The royal residence's insides are decorated with detailed walls, delicate frescoes as well as luxuriant furnishings, mirroring the prosperous heritage and artistic customs of ancient Rajasthan. Each corner of the palace is diligently crafted to excellence, from the marvellous domes and domed doorways to the gleaming light fixtures and marble floorings. Moreover, every edge of the royal residence tells a tale of the golden days, with each pillar holding tight the glory of the gone days.
