Behold the 'Jaivana' Cannon
Towering majestically over the historic city of Amer, the Jaigarh Fort stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Kachawaha dynasty. This magnificent architectural marvel bears witness to the heroic triumphs and tumultuous struggles unfolding within its formidable walls.
The Jaigarh Fort played a pivotal role in defending the Amer kingdom for several years. Its strategic position atop the rugged Aravalli hills made it an impregnable bastion against invaders. During the Mughal era, the fort's importance only grew as it became the primary cannon foundry for the dynasty, with its forges and workshops churning out the weaponry that would shape the course of history.
In the turbulent years of 1658, when the Mughal succession plunged the empire into chaos, the cannon outpost at Jaigarh stood steadfast, protected by Dara Shikoh until his tragic defeat and execution at the hands of his brother, Aurangzeb.
Yet, the fort's legacy only continued to ascend under Jai Singh II, who claimed ownership of the fortress and commissioned the creation of the world-renowned "Jaivana" cannon—a feat of engineering and craftsmanship that remains the largest cannon on wheels to this day.
Even today, you can see 'Jaivana' proudly boasting the valour and indomitable spirit of the Kachawaha rulers within the walls of this fort.
