What makes this remarkable?

Chittorgarh provides an unforgettable experience. Home to India's largest fort complex, this ancient marvel's perimeter wall covers 13 kilometres - its majestic walls tower above 180-metre-high hills and cover an expanse of 700 acres of land. Over 1,000 years old and constructed during the 7th century, its enduring legacy spans 65 historic structures such as 4 palaces, 19 large temples, 20 large water bodies, memorials and a victory tower; even taking its name from this remarkable landmark in Rajput history! This iconic fort has made Chittorgarh known - yet another testament to its legendary status in Rajput history.

Incredible stories

Chittorgarh Fort was initially constructed by Chitrangad of the Mori (Mourya) dynasty during the 7th century AD. According to legend, however, its construction may have been initiated by Bhim, one of the Pandava warriors from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. Legend has it that Bhim's strike here caused a reservoir to form; now known as Bhimlat Kund.

Fort Rajputana's security is enhanced by seven gates - Ram Pol, Lakshman Pol, Padal Pol, Ganesh Pol, Jorla Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol - all bearing distinctive names and tales - though Suraj Pol or "Sun Gate" stands as its grand entranceway. As you walk the kilometre-long road leading up to the summit, you will feel yourself being taken back through time and immersed in tales of conquest and tragedy. Each gate you pass will hold its own special story and historical importance for your enjoyment. Chittorgarh Fort has survived three violent attacks throughout its storied past and now stands as a testament to their unwavering spirit and pride. Its impressive architecture features intricate detailing which stands as a testament to their resilience and courage as they once called this place home. Exploring this historical treasure brings bards singing tales of courage and sacrifice.
