A maharaja’s vision

Standing stark amidst the rugged Aravalli hills, Siliserh Lake is a testament to the vision of Maharaja Vinay Singh of Alwar. In 1845, this far-sighted ruler constructed an embankment on a tributary of the Ruparel River, creating this artificial lake. His purpose was clear: to provide water to the city of Alwar. The aqueducts that surround the lake still bear witness to this noble endeavour.

Beware of the legend

Siliserh Lake is more than just water; it’s steeped in legends. Locals whisper tales of crocodiles lurking beneath its serene surface. Even today, there are warning signs put up. The dense woodlands surrounding the lake harbour a rich biodiversity, including over 100 species of birds.

Siliserh Lake Palace: A love story

The lake’s namesake, the Siliserh Lake Palace, adds to its allure. Maharaja Vinay Singh built this palace as a tribute to his beloved queen, Shila Devi, a princess of Bharatpur. The palace, once a royal hunting lodge, now stands as a heritage hotel. Its architecture reflects the grandeur of bygone eras, and the views from its balconies are nothing short of enchanting.
