Remembering Bebe Nanaki

The Gurudwara Bebe Nanaki Ji is located within the Sultanpur Lodhi City, an administrative subdivision of Kapurthala District. This hallowed site served as the abode of Bibi Nanaki ji. The Gurudwara Bebe Nanaki Ji was erected during the 1970s to commemorate the legacy of Bebe Nanaki, the esteemed older sister of Guru Nanak.

The factual abode, a three-storeyed antiquated edifice widely considered to be the habitation of Bebe Nanaki and her spouse, Jai Ram, is situated in the historic district of Mohalla Chhimbian. Given that the premises were private, a ceremony was held on the 13th of November 1970 to lay the foundation stone of a monument intended for public display. The structure, which takes the form of a gurdwara, was erected under the guidance of Bebe Nanaki Istri Satsang Charitable Trust, with Bibi Balvant Kaur of Birmingham (United Kingdom) serving as chair.

The Bebe Nanaki JI Gurudwara has a spacious main hall where the holy Guru Granth Sahib is kept in a grande white marble palaki at the furthermost end. The Guru Granth Sahib is also enshrined in a petite chamber emblematic of the abode of Bebe Nanaki. Above the hall ceiling, atop the sanctuary, lies a quadrilateral chamber with arched cresting’s. The corners of the hall roof are embellished with protuberant domes.
