Tales of a beloved saint
Legend has it that in the 17th century, Baba Sodal defied his mother's orders to stay home and accompanied her to the riverbanks. Enraged by his disobedience, his mother cursed him, commanding him to drown himself in the water. Baba Sodal, unfazed, asked his mother to repeat her directive, and upon her confirmation, he plunged into the water, never to resurface. It's believed that he transformed into a sacred serpent and departed from the mortal realm. In honour of this tale, the Baba Sodal Temple was erected at the site of this event. Pilgrims flock to the temple to take a dip in the sacred water reservoir adjacent to the temple, known as Baba Sodal da Sarovar (Baba Sodal’s well), said to be his final resting place; its shrine features beautiful paintings and intricate sculptures depicting his story.
Baba Sodal's well is widely recognised for its medicinal qualities and is believed to have the power to help heal various conditions. Baba Sodal is considered an important pilgrimage site by Hindus and Sikhs seeking spiritual solace, as evidenced by annual monsoon season celebrations honouring Baba Sodal with grand processions and joyous festivities.
