Steeped in the legends of the Ramayana

In the city of Amritsar stands the sublime Bhagwan Valmiki Tirath Sthal, also known as the Ram Tirath temple. Welcome to the outstanding beauty of this temple panorama complex!

Believed to be the location of the ashram of the sage himself, the present monument has at its heart an awe-inspiring 8-foot-tall, 800-kg gold-plated idol of Sage Valmiki, radiating such an aura that will stun you!

Goddess Sita, Lord Ram's wife, found solace in this sacred sanctuary during her exile. Here, she gave birth to her twin sons, Luv and Kush, whom the sage nurtured and guided with care.

Come! This place is like a mythical time machine that takes you back to the era of the Ramayana.

Temple with a modern touch

The Ram Tirath Temple has undergone extensive renovations, which have enhanced its allure. This divine site now boasts entrance portals at both ends, circumambulation with a bridge, and two huts−one dedicated to Sage Valmiki and the other believed to be the hut where Ma Sita gave birth to the twins.

There is also a large sacred sarovar (pond), which is believed to have been dug up by Lord Hanuman himself. People from across India come for a holy dip, especially on the auspicious occasion of Purunmashi. Today , the pond is adorned with elegant fountains.

Within its precincts, you'll also find a grand devotee hall capable of accommodating 5000 worshippers, a rich Sanskrit library, and a museum teeming with relics of antiquity. Adding to its modern amenities is the multi-story car parking facility with ample space for 500 four-wheeler vehicles.

The unmissable annual fair

If you want to see the temple in all its glory, come in November for the four-day annual Ram Tirath fair! It's a massive festival beckoning devotees from far and wide. Let it cast its enchanting spell on you, too.
