Visa requirements for India vary depending on the nationality of the traveller and the purpose of their visit. Different categories of visas are available with specific endorsements indicating the number of entries allowed and the duration of stay.

Nationals of Nepal and Bhutan do not require Visa to enter India. However, a citizen of Nepal & Bhutan must have a passport and visa for India if he/she is entering India from China, Macau, Hong Kong and Pakistan.

Maldivian citizens visiting India for up to 90 days are exempt from visa requirements, provided they hold a valid Maldivian passport. This visa-free entry is allowed for tourism purposes only. The 90-day period includes any previous tourist visa stays in India within the past six months. Maldivians wishing to visit India for more than 90 days must obtain a visa.
Diplomatic and official passport holders are subject to a separate visa regime.
Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)
An OCl card is a Life Long Visa to visit India which is issued to a person who is a citizen of another country, but who or either whose parents or grandparents or great grandparents was citizens of India at the time of or at any time after the commencement of Indian Constitution i.e 25.01.1950.
An OCI cardholder shall have to submit an application in OCI Miscellaneous service for issuance of duplicate OCI documents in the following events:
(a) Change of personal particulars viz. nationality etc;
(b) Loss/damage of OCI registration certificate;
(c) Filing of wrong personal particulars while submitting online application viz. name, father's name, date of birth etc.
(d) Change of address/ occupation of the OCI cardholder.
Further, an OCl cardholder shall have to get the OCl card re-issued once when a new passport is issued after completing 20 years of age so as to capture his/ her facial features on attaining adulthood.
