Historical highlights and intriguing tales
Established by King Veer Vikrama Dev in 1648-49 CE, the Jeypore Palace served as the capital of the former Kingdom of Jeypore under Sankara dynasty rule. The Palace stands as an iconic symbol of undivided Koraput, its history and architecture reflected through its exquisite structure. While visitors are not permitted to enter its premises, its grandeur can be appreciated from outside. The palace's main gate was renovated in 2013, adding to the beauty of this structure. A prominent feature is a royal seat crafted entirely of pure gold by Mughal Emperor Akbar that was given as a gift to Jeypore kings by Akbar himself; today this precious relic remains an inestimable asset of this palace.
