Where the earth meets the sky

Nestled in the heart of Odisha, where the Eastern Ghats stretch their arms toward the heavens, lies the majestic Deomali Hills. This majestic range, crowned by the highest peak in Odisha, stands tall at 1,672 meters above sea level. Around 70kms from Koraput, Deomali is more than just a geographical landmark; it’s a symphony of nature, history, and adventure.

A history of conquests and freedom

Imagine ancient footsteps echoing through lush forests, and you’ll find traces of Deomali in the writings of the 7th-century Chinese traveller Hiuen Tsang. Deomali was conquered by different dynasties through the centuries, including the Chalukya, Chola and Gajapati dynasties.

These different rulers contributed to the growth of Deomali, building temples and palaces. Later on, it became the site for a number of battles between the British and Indian freedom fighters.

The sounds and colours of nature

It is with a sense of awe and amazement that you begin to grasp the immaculate beauty of the Hill. Surrounded by deep green forests and dotted with brooks and deep valleys, the symphony of bird tweets render the air even as wildflowers lend a distinct fragrance to the area. Watch the sky transform at sunrise and sunset as the green hills take on hues of orange, pink and even purple. Nearby waterfalls complete a picture of total bliss.
