Keeping traditions alive
The Naga Heritage Village is a captivating tribute to the traditional Naga way of life, designed to keep their vibrant culture alive and thriving. While exploring the village, you will immerse yourself in the rich history of the Naga tribes, known for their remarkable bonds and strong community values. You will be greeted by a cluster of 16 houses, each individually called a "Morung." In an era when education was deprived, the Morung served as a place where skills were shared, stories were told, and traditions were preserved. You will also discover ceremonial gates and a central arena where cultural performances and ceremonies are held.
If you visit during the Hornbill Festival, the Morungs will let you experience the unique customs and traditions of the 16 officially recognized Naga tribes. You will also witness arts and crafts exhibitions, food stalls featuring indigenous cuisines, and demonstrations of Naga sports and games. You will even find numerous stalls and shops that sell traditional Naga artwork, jewellery, textiles, and souvenirs. Buying these items helps support local artisans and the preservation of their craft.
Respecting the customs
While visiting, it's important to show respect for the local traditions and customs. This includes avoiding wearing revealing clothing, asking for permission before taking photos of people or private property, and removing shoes before entering certain areas. It's appreciated to learn about local customs from guides or hosts.
