A peek into a neighbouring country

Located in the picturesque district of Champhai, Lianchhaiari Lunglen Tlang is a stunning ridge that offers panoramic views of the sprawling valleys and hills of eastern Mizoram. Standing prominently in the area, the cliff is often enveloped in mists that add a mystical quality to its already dramatic scenery. This geographical marvel provides a vantage point that is unmatched in the region, offering views that stretch into the horizon, sometimes as far as the neighbouring country of Myanmar.

High drama

The beauty of Lianchhaiari Lunglen Tlang lies in its dramatic topography and the lush landscapes that surround it. The area is popular among tourists and locals for the breathtaking views it offers, especially at sunrise and sunset when the sky is painted in vibrant hues. The cliff itself, with its rugged features, forms a striking contrast against the gentle greenery of the hills, making it a photographer’s and nature lover’s paradise.

The lover’s viewpoint

Local folklore associates the ridge with a story of heartbreak.

Lianchhiari, the beautiful daughter of Vanhnuaithanga, the esteemed chief of Dungtlang, fell deeply in love with Chawngfianga a young man from a humble background. Their romance blossomed, capturing the attention of the entire village. Following tradition, Chawngfianga’s family appointed a mediator to negotiate the necessary wedding formalities with Lianchhiari’s family. Unfortunately, this go-between harboured jealousy toward Chawngfianga, whom the chief also favoured. Cunningly, he sabotaged their marriage plans.

Chawngfianga and his family, embarrassed by the turn of events, silently relocated to Chhingzawl, a village east of Dungtlang. This sudden departure shattered Lianchhiari, who climbed the hill to a precarious ledge. From there, she gazed endlessly toward the village where her beloved now resided. Days turned into weeks as she sat there, refusing food, and composing melancholic songs of love.
