A landscape carved in history
Located near the village of Mualthuam, this place is a sight to behold. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by a sight that will leave you awestruck. Over 171 menhirs or large standing stones are present in line along the ancient pathway. These silent sigils are intricately carved with figures of humans, animals, and even floral motifs. Each etching whispers tales of a bygone era, a civilisation that thrived here centuries ago. The mysteries don't end there. Kawtchhuah Ropui sprawls over a vast 45 square kilometres, and within its embrace lies a necropolis encompassing a vast cemetery, which hints at a large and well-established settlement.
Further exploration reveals the remains of an ingenious water pavilion, with strategically drilled holes designed to store water. The main excavation site unveils a series of 15 carved terraces, where these ancient people might have built their dwellings. Recently, ASI has discovered neolithic caves near Vangchhia, indicating that the lost civilisation could be much older than its initial estimations.
