The park of themes

The Aizawl Zoological Park is located 14 km away from the capital city of Mizoram. It was officially inaugurated on 26th November 2006 and this zoological park covers an extensive area of 18.75 hectares.

This arena is home to over 150 species of animals, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. The landscape of the park is designed to mimic the natural habitat of these animals to provide them with a comfortable atmosphere to thrive to the fullest. In the park, you can experience various sections, including carnivores, herbivores, and primate enclosures with reptile houses.

The zoo is also known for holding a wide variety of big cats. You can see the majestic Bengal tiger, the clouded leopard and also the agile snow leopard. But, the park doesn't include only these animals. Several other inhabitants make you open your eyes wide like the Asiatic elephant, the Indian rhinoceros, and the majestic Sambar deer. Not only these, but the park is also home to a variety of bird species, including the colourful hornbill, the majestic eagle, and the vibrant parakeet. One special feature of the zoological park is the botanical garden. It showcases the wide variety of plants that are native to the region. You can take a leisurely walk in the garden amidst the greenery and fresh atmosphere.

A thrill to remember

Other than roaming around and looking at all the animals and plants, there's so much more that you can do. The Aizawl Zoological Park offers you guided tours. As you visit the animals, a guide provides you with knowledge and insights about their habits, behaviours and conservation status.

To make you familiar with the creatures of the sky, there's a walk-in aviary where you can observe the wide variety of birds with their shimmering feathers up close. One of the most interesting and fun activities is the train ride which allows you to visit the whole zoo on wheels. This place is considered to be a haven for those interested in nature and wildlife photography. The animals, birds and plants are sure to make your gallery full of vibrant hues.

There's also a petting zoo area available here where you can spend some time with rabbits, guinea pigs and birds. This place is particularly well-liked by the children. Picnics are allowed here for those who want to spend some quality time with family or friends, just relaxing at this serene spot.

If you wish to retain a part from here to remember your trip, you can buy souvenirs from the shop, not only for yourself but also for your family and friends. They sell t-shirts, toys, keychains etc.  The Aizawl Zoological Park also offers a unique educational opportunity for people of all ages. The zoological park conducts regular workshops involving wildlife conservation and environment preservation.

The park also organises summer camps for children to learn about environmental education and outdoor activities. The park also organises special programs to raise awareness among people about issues like pollution, deforestation and climate change.
