An ancient fortress steeped in legend and mystery

Within Pune lies an ancient fortress steeped in legend and mystery: Shaniwar Wada. Once an opulent seven-storied palace, today only its foundation remains standing. As soon as you step through the grand gates of Shaniwar Wada, you'll feel the weight of history permeate through every brick and stone - from when its construction started by the powerful Peshwa Baji Rao I in 1732 until a devastating fire consumed it in 1828! Such was its grandeur of construction that it took two years for completion - making this building an architectural marvel at its time!

The magnificence of Shaniwar Wada

Shaniwar Wada in Pune, India, is an enchanting historical masterpiece constructed during the 18th century at a cost of 16,110 INR. Comprising five grand doors - Dilli Darwaja for general visitors to Jambul or Narayan Darwaja that served concubines or mistresses exclusively - each is purposed differently with intricate carvings on teak doorways, majestic pillars, marble floors and the breathtaking Hazari Karanje or Fountain of Thousand Jets creating an experience you won't forget.

Unravelling incredible stories

Shaniwar Wada has played an influential role in several significant historical events, most notably the assassination of Peshwa Narayanrao in 1889. Due to this tragic event, it is said to be haunted - adding another dimension of mystery and fascination for visitors interested in history and architecture alike.
