The temple's saga
The ISKCON Temple in Mumbai was built in the 1970s under the guidance of Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Swami Prabhupada acquired the 4 acres of land, now known as Hare Krishna Land, to build the temple. The temple was opened to the public on 14th January 1978.
Even from a distance, the white marble ISKCON temple in Mumbai is breathtaking, and its exquisitely carved entryway only serves to enhance its allure. The three-story main edifice features a spire (Shikhara) at the top that is about a hundred feet high, resembling the architecture of a Hindu temple.
The temple grounds are spacious and can hold a sizable number of worshippers at once. Several amazing murals that depict well-known incidents from the Mahabharata epic may be found on the inside walls of the temples.
