A testament to artistry
At the centre of Basavana Bagewadi stands the beautiful Basaveshwara Temple, commonly referred to as Jagadguru Temple. Spanning over 2,000 square feet, this architectural marvel features eye-catching sculptures that awe visitors. Additionally, shrines dedicated to Basaveshwara (Nandi), Sangameshwara, Mallikarjuna and Ganapathi represent deep-seated spiritual elements in this region. Within its sacred confines, you'll discover two exquisite marble statues depicting both Basavanna himself and his beloved wife inside its sacred walls.
The Basaveshwara Temple, dating back to the Chalukyan era and located east-facing on Kudala Sangama, echoes the grandeur of its counterpart at Kudala. Crafted out of both sandstone and granite for maximum grandeur, its design features an imposing Basavanna idol who reverently bows before Shivalinga for worshipping purposes. Furthermore, there is also an associated school, pilgrim rooms, and stately stone arches at its entrance that provide an immersive spiritual experience!
The spiritual trailblazer
Basavana Bagewadi witnessed Basaveshwara's formative years - widely believed to be an incarnation of Nandi, Lord Shiva's divine carrier - who championed spiritual development while writing captivating poetry in the Kannada language. Additionally, he worked tirelessly for social reform during his lifetime - leaving an invaluable legacy that continues to influence generations today.
