As you wander its long history you'll be taken back in time with every turn and tale told about this extraordinary monument.

A dream unfulfilled

Adil Shah II dreamt of building Bara Kaman as an impressive rival to Gol Gumbaz; its grand structure would enclose King Ali Adil Shah II's tomb with twelve resplendent arches, however, due to Adil Shah II's untimely death the project never progressed further than an unfinished 20-foot platform which remains as a testament of what once would have dominated Vijayapura skyline. Unfortunately, this dream never became reality but is still standing as a testament of what could have been an elegant monument that would have dominated the Vijayapura skyline.

Architectural detail

Bara Kaman's architectural design is truly captivating. This roofless square building, known as Bara Kaman, boasts unfinished arches made of dark basalt that exude Gothic grandeur. The massive basement that holds these incomplete structures spans 215 square feet. At its heart lies tombstones for Ali Adil Shah II and other family members of Ali Adil Shah I. Beneath this platform lies a crypt with access through a door located on its eastern side - further adding to Bara Kaman's overall charm. Further, it’s surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens.
