Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple
Constructed during the 10th-11th century, the Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple underwent a transformation into a solid stone structure in the 14th century. The deity housed within, Lord Manjunatha, is believed to have one of the oldest idols among South Indian temples. According to legend, the temple's origin is intertwined with the directive of Lord Shiva to Parashurama. Following Shiva's instructions, Parashurama cast his axe into the sea, creating a sacred site for his penance. Responding to Parashurama's devoted prayers, Lord Shiva manifested in the form of Manjunatha, accompanied by Goddess Parvathi, and chose to reside in Kadri for the betterment.
