A sanctuary of serenity

Situated in the heart of the evergreen forests of the Western Ghats in Karnataka, Dandeli National Park is a prime example of an ecologically pristine area that is famous for its wildlife. Stepping into the green jungle of Dandeli is like being part of a symphony of the wild, with the rustling of leaves and chirping of many bird species. Ranging from elephants to big cats, the park gives you an opportunity to acquaint yourself with the wild side of Karnataka.

Wilderness unveiled: A sanctuary for nature’s creatures

Dandeli National Park is famous for its multiple ecosystems, which include long rivers, thick forests, and mountains. The park is a shelter to numerous flora and fauna species, including many endangered species. Among the most iconic inhabitants are:

Asian Elephants: The Dandeli Elephant Reserve in the forests around Dandeli are home to over 60 elephants and are protected under Project Elephant.

Tigers: With good tiger occupancy, tigers are sighted often in the protected Dandeli (Kali) Tiger Reserve.

Leopards: Being quiet and secretive, the leopards inhabit the forests of Dandeli, and you often come across them roaming the hills, their spotted bodies blending with the sun rays.

Yellow-throated bulbuls, Malabar giant squirrels, and smooth-coated otters are iconic species that visitors to the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary can see. However, the sanctuary is also home to a wide range of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians that play a critical role in maintaining the fragile ecosystem.

River of life: Kali Ganga

Kali River, which runs through the heart of Dandeli National Park, is a source of life for both the wildlife and the local people of the area. The river winds its way through the forest, with clear water full of fish. Visitors get to experience a different kind of excitement in Dandeli by gently rolling along the Kali River in search of crocs, otters, and a multitude of bird species. Rafting on the Kali River provides a thrilling expedition for the adventurous, with rapids ranging from gentle to challenging.
