D R Bendre was born in 1896 at Dharwad, a city which is famous for being culturally significant and educational at the same time. He is regarded as one of the greatest Kannada poets and the title Varakavi, meaning as a gifted poet, has been duly bestowed upon him. His body of work featuring verses, articles, and plays reveal his perfect understanding of human feelings, nature, and religion. Bendre was greatly admired by his contemporaries, and was bestowed with various awards, the most prestigious being the Jnanpith Award in the year 1973.

The guests will also see Bendre's writing desk along with his fountain pens, and some of his personal belongings, such as his favourite shawl and spectacles.
