Exploring the timeless beauty

At the heart of Bidar, an ancient city rich in history and culture, lies a stunning ensemble of architectural wonders known as Bahmani Tombs. These remarkable mausoleums stand as a testament to the Bahmani Sultanate era which continues to delight visitors worldwide. Boasting timeless grace with its symmetrical elegance and graceful architectural features, these tombs will entice you on an exciting historical journey through their stunning beauty. Built between 1436 and 1535, these tombs stand as great examples of architectural evolution. With their beautiful arches, decorative niches, and lofty domes that capture Persian and Indian influences, the designs create a unique fusion of styles.

Cultural significance

The Bahmani Tombs hold an extraordinary place in Bidar's community as Urs (Jatra) is held here every year. This month-long event draws both Hindu and Muslim visitors. The Bahamani Dynasty, from which these tombs take their name, were fond of building magnificent tombs in preparation for their deaths. Out of all these, Ahmad Shah and Alauddin Shah II's tombs stand out because of their grandeur.

However, you will also find a strange sight amongst the grand tombs. The tomb of Humayun Shah, the son of Alauddin, was struck by lightning and collapsed, making it look like a cross-section cut model of a tomb!
