A peaceful sanctuary

Take a break from the bustling streets of Bengaluru and lose yourself in Ulsoor Lake’s tranquil embrace. A hidden natural treasure is just waiting to be found among the colourful cityscape. Imagine a location where the sounds of the city subside and are replaced by the soft rhythm of the waves and the whispering of the trees. Ulsoor Lake is more than just another body of water; it is a haven of peace in the middle of the bustling city.

Feel the world lift off your shoulders as soon as you set foot on Ulsoor Lake’s serene shores. The vast stretch of sparkling water in front of you invites you to let go of your cares and enjoy the peace of the present. Walk slowly down the lakefront sidewalk, where lush trees offer much-needed shade from the sun. Walking along the water’s edge, take in the soothing sound of birds chirping and the faint hum of city life, and make the most of the present moment.

Wonders of nature await

Also known as the Halasuru Lake, this lake, sprawled over 50 hectares with several small islands scattered in it, this lake is one of the largest lakes in the city. Built in 1537, it is also one of the oldest lakes in Bengaluru. Ulsoor Lake was supposedly formed in the second century by King Kempe Gowda, according to a well-known local mythology. It was then called the 'Halsur' or 'Alasur' lake. But during his tenure as Bangalore's Commissioner at the time, Sir Lewin Bentham Bowring built the lake as it is now.

In addition, the lake features a special pond where statues of the goddess Durga and the god Ganesha are submerged as part of a rite after the holidays of Durga puja and Ganesh Chaturthi. The colours of celebration and joy abound in the lake. Surrounded by a variety of five-star hotels and multi-restaurant establishments, Bangalore's Ulsoor Lake region is a bustling hub of activity. The lake’s charm is enhanced by the Gurudwara that is situated directly behind it. Several historic temples can also be seen in and around Ulsoor.

Remember to take advantage of the opportunity to see the breathtaking sunset from one of the lake’s picturesque viewpoints as the day draws to an end. Locate a peaceful area near the water’s edge, and observe as the sun sets, illuminating the sky with brilliant pink and orange tones and creating a cozy glow over the waves. You will feel inspired, refreshed, and prepared to take on whatever adventures lie ahead after witnessing this amazing sight.

Snacking on Bengaluru’s street food delights

A trip to Ulsoor Lake would not be complete without sampling some of Bengaluru’s renowned street cuisine. Visit the vibrant markets in the area to indulge in a wide variety of delectable foods, such as crispy dosas and spicy chaats. Taste buds should be allowed to dance with joy as you relish the strong tastes and fragrant spices that are characteristic of Karnataka’s culinary tradition. The masala dosa, a popular dish in the area that is served with tangy chutneys and is a savoury crepe filled with a spicy potato mixture, is a must-try. It is a culinary delight.
