The fort today
Accessing the fort is possible via a series of steep steps. Adorned with intricate carvings, several ornate gateways are constructed into the rock. The pathway leading to the fort is carved from a massive redstone hillock, offering a distinctive backdrop. Along the route, there are numerous reservoirs for water storage.
Within the fort, two temples are notable: the Lower Shivalaya, a modest two-story structure nestled at the hill's corner with a view of Badami town, and the Upper Shivalaya, a Dravidian-style edifice situated atop the hill. Numerous dilapidated structures dot the fort's surroundings. Some outstanding features of the fort include a vast underground chamber, huge granaries, watch towers etc. There is also a masjid like structure situated in the centre of the fort. A notable highlight within the fort is the 16th-century Tipu's cannon.
