The valley’s fascinating etymology
When British officers first encountered the valley, they found it reminiscent of the Annandale valley in Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Many officers hailed from Scotland’s Annandale, so they decided to name this Indian valley after its Scottish counterpart. Another tale involves Charles Pratt Kennedy, a British political agent. Impressed by the valley's beauty, he named it after his beloved back in England - "Anna".
