Gateway to adventure sports

Established on 16th September, 1961 in Manali by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, the Atal Behari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), formerly known as the Western Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, stands as a beacon for adventure enthusiasts. As the Himalayan region beckoned with its rugged peaks and untamed beauty, the need for a premier mountaineering institute became evident.

Driven by a vision to train youth in adventure sports, harness their energy for developmental activities, and eradicate social barriers, ABVIMAS stepped up to fulfill this need, providing a platform for aspiring mountaineers, trekkers, and adventure seekers.

Learn from the best

ABVIMAS isn’t your run-of-the-mill institute. It’s a sanctuary of knowledge, where seasoned mountaineers and instructors impart their wisdom. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned climber, their guidance will elevate your skills. Imagine learning the ropes from someone who’s conquered the mighty Mount Everest – that’s the calibre of instructors you’ll find here.

Explore the Himalayas

Picture this: snow-capped peaks, pristine trails and the crisp mountain air. ABVIMAS organises expeditions that allow you to tread the same paths as legendary climbers. As you ascend, you’ll witness breath-taking vistas – valleys cradling emerald lakes, rhododendron forests and the ethereal play of light on snow. These aren’t just trails; they’re portals to wonder.
