Bid your worries farewell

Call it a spiritual powerhouse or a retreat for healing. The sacred Chintpurni Devi Temple takes you in and dispels all your worries, giving you the peace of mind that you have always sought. After all, it's in the name! Chintpurni means 'The Goddess who removes anxiety'. And as you enter the sanctum, you will sense your troubles already beginning to fade away.

Pilgrims hailing from every corner of the country converge upon the Mata Shri Chintpurni Temple, about 75 kilometers from Dharamshala, drawn by the desire to offer their heartfelt prayers at the feet of Maa Chintpurni Devi (also called Maa Chhinnamastika Devi), one of the many manifestations of Goddess Durga.

So, head to this most revered Shakti Peeth and be relieved of your troubles.

A legend straight from the Puranas

If you love mythology, you have another reason to visit the Chintpurni Devi Temple. This divine site is brimming with ancient Puranic (ancient Hindu literature) tales. Legend has it that Lord Shiva, also known as Rudra Mahadev, is protecting Ma Chintpurni (Ma Chhinnamastika) in all four directions. This belief is reinforced by the presence of four Shiva temples, each nearly equidistant from the Chintpurni Temple: Muchkund Mahadev in the north, Shiva Bari in the south, Kaleshwar Mahadev in the east, and Narayhana Mahadev in the west.

Another story goes like this: in a bid to halt Lord Shiva's tandava (dance of destruction), Lord Vishnu severed the burning body of Maa Sati into 51 pieces. These pieces were scattered across various places in India, transforming them into sacred sites. Sati's head is said to have fallen here and is thus considered one of the most important of the 51 Shakti Peethas.

Beyond the temple

While at Chintpurni, immerse yourself completely in every spiritual experience it has to offer. Venture on a soul-stirring exploration to four incredible Shiva temples around the site, or visit other temples in Thaneek Pura, about 3 kilometer from the Chintpurni shrine.

But before you leave, don't forget to take away Ma’s blessings with you in the form of beautiful souvenirs available in the local markets.

A chance to be relieved of your troubles! You don't need more reasons to visit and witness the incredible power of Ma Chintpurni!
