Ancient roots

Gurugram's history dates back thousands of years, with evidence of human settlements found in archaeological sites such as Sohna and Farrukhnagar. The region was once part of the legendary kingdom of Kuru, mentioned in ancient Indian texts like the Mahabharata. During the British colonial era, Gurugram was a sleepy agrarian village, known primarily for its fertile lands and traditional way of life. However, the construction of the Delhi–Rewari railway line in the late 19th century brought the town into the spotlight, facilitating trade and transportation.

Post-Independence development

Following India's independence in 1947, Gurugram experienced gradual urbanization and industrialization. However, it was not until the late 20th century that the city underwent a dramatic transformation, emerging as a leading center for technology, finance, and commerce.

Rise of cyber city

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Gurugram witnessed a boom in the information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO) sectors, earning it the moniker "Cyber City." Multinational corporations flocked to the city, attracted by its strategic location, skilled workforce, and modern infrastructure.
