The salt desert
The Rann of Kutch is home to one of the world's largest salt deserts, known for its extraordinary white salty landscape that stretches as far as the eye can see. The Hindi word "Rann" means "desert," underlining the area's expansive arid conditions.
Rich historical tapestry
The history of the Rann of Kutch is as vast as its landscapes. It has been populated since the Bronze Age and is notable for the Indus Valley Civilisation settlement of Dholavira, one of the largest and most prominent archaeological sites in the region. Over the millennia, this area has seen the rule of multiple dynasties and empires, including the Maurya and Gupta empires, and much later, the Jadeja dynasty until the British takeover in the 19th century.
