A special day for every Indian
Republic Day holds a special place in the hearts of every Indian citizen. On this day, the entire nation commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950 as the cornerstone of an independent, sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic with a parliamentary system of government.
The celebration of Republic Day is also a day to pay tribute to the countless heroes and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation. On this day, the entire country rejoices in the values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that are enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
Republic Day parade: A grand spectacle
The heart of Republic Day celebrations is the grand parade at Kartavya Path, New Delhi. It is an awe-inspiring spectacle that captures the essence of India – a powerful portrayal of the nation's military prowess and cultural heritage. The entire nation comes together to watch this amazing spectacle both in person and on national telecasts.
The day begins with the country paying homage to the country's heroes and warriors as the ceremonial events commence with the Prime Minister's visit to the National War Memorial, to pay tribute to war heroes. The unfurling of the National Flag, accompanied by the national anthem and a 21-gun salute, sets the stage for the parade. Helicopters shower flower petals on the enthusiastic audience. The parade features a diverse array of contingents, including the Indian Army, Horse Cavalry Regiment, marching contingents, and mechanised columns, showcasing India's military prowess.
The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force contingents display their power, including aircraft like the Light Combat Aircraft and Light Combat Helicopter. The parade also features defence contingents such as the DRDO, Indian Coast Guard, and Central Reserve Police Force, among others. The Veterans' Tableau pays homage to the contributions of veterans in shaping India's history.
