Where the Sun paints the horizon twice

Conveniently situated adjacent to Diu town, Chakratirth Beach is a coastal gem renowned as one of the places in the world where you can watch the rising and setting of the sun as the land meets the sea. Named after a mythical ‘chakra’ (disc) placed by Lord Vishnu, this beach offers a captivating landscape of white sands and azure waters.

The chakra of Lord Brahma

According to ancient folklore, a group of rishis (sages) sought refuge from the Asuras (demons) while performing penance. Troubled by their predicament, the sages approached Lord Brahma for assistance. In response, Lord Brahma created a Chakra (a holy wheel) using the sun’s rays. He instructed the sages to follow the Chakra until it came to a stop. Wherever the disc landed, the sages could settle down in peace. The Chakra eventually rested at Chakratirth, creating an abundant source of water. However, the water flow was too intense, prompting the sages to seek further help from Goddess Lalita Devi. She re-established the Chakra to regulate the water flow, thus forming the sacred site we know today.

The Sun's dance

Chakratirth Beach is renowned as the Sunset Point. Here, the sun performs a mesmerizing dance as it rises and sets. The merging of the firmament and the sea creates a magical spectacle. Locals and visitors alike gather to witness this celestial performance, where the sun paints the sky with hues of gold and crimson.
