Tales of courage and resilience

At a time when India and her allies were deeply embroiled in Cold War tensions, INS Khukri's sinking sent shockwaves through both India and internationally. Sunk by an enemy submarine at its height during this wartime battleground, its demise marked one of few examples where submarine attacks were taking out Western-built warships during this conflict era. One brave figure who stood out despite grave injuries sustained was Lieutenant Commander Mahendra Nath Mulla, remaining at his post to ensure the safe evacuation of his crew.

Under excruciating circumstances, the crew of INS Khukri displayed extraordinary courage and sacrifice, working tenaciously to save as many lives as possible despite being hit by torpedoes.
