Incredible Stories of Heroism

The Martyr's Memorial is filled with incredible tales of heroism and sacrifice, such as that of Dr Anugrah Narain's arrest while trying to unfurl India's tricolour in Patna. Seven students mounted an effort to raise the national flag, only to tragically fall at the hands of British forces and die as a result. Devi Prasad Roychoudhury of Italy skillfully created this bronze statue of seven students holding their national flag before having it installed at the Memorial. These names-Umakant Prasad Sinha, Ramanand Singh, Satish Chandra Jha, Jagatpati Kumar, Devipada Choudhary, Rajendra Singh and Ramgovind Singh--have forever cemented themselves into India's struggle for independence. Another heroic figure often neglected by history was that of freedom fighters who raised India's flag at the Secretariat building.
