A divine haven of reverence and belief

Mahavir Mandir stands as a beacon of spiritual devotion in Patna, drawing devotees from far and wide. Devoted to Lord Hanuman, this sacred temple holds an esteemed position as North India's second-largest religious shrine and boasts rich historical tradition as one of its most venerated Hanuman temples - inspiring faith and belief among countless believers who come for worship there every day.

A testimony of timeless devotion

Mahavir Mandir stands as an eternal tribute to devotion. Established by Swami Balanand of the Ramanandi sect in 1730 AD, its history dates back centuries and continues to resonate today as evidence of divine presence residing within its walls. In 1948, the Patna High Court officially recognised its historic value.

A journey of rebirth and resilience

The story of Bihar Temple is one of resilience and renewal rooted in history. Following India's partition in 1947, its popularity increased exponentially during this turbulent time as it provided refuge and solace to thousands of refugees in Bihar. Reconstructing in concrete became necessary due to increasing numbers of devotees until 1987 when plans were announced to demolish and rebuild it as a grand marble temple, radiating timeless elegance that continues to charm visitors who enter its sacred premises.

Mahavir-Mandir

A sanctuary of spirituality

As soon as you step inside the Mahavir Mandir, you are immersed in a spiritual realm that transcends time and space. The temple's three levels each offer their own distinct experience - starting on the ground floor where two revered idols of Lord Hanuman serve a distinct function in devotees' hearts; here is also found an intimate courtyard filled with sweet shops and book shops, creating an air of devotional prayerfulness. There is even an area dedicated to Lord Shiva where visitors may seek his blessings!

Ascending to the first floor will present you with life-size idols of various Gods and Goddesses - including Lord Rama, Krishna and Shiva - along with sacred Ramsetu Shila stone which is believed to be part of the floating bridge mentioned in the Ramayana, creating an aura of reverence.

On the second floor, you will discover an area dedicated to religious ceremonies and rituals. The Sanskar Mandap, featuring intricately carved walls, serves as an intimate sanctuary where mantras and chants can take place to deepen spiritual ties.

Legends that echo through time

Mahavir Hanuman, the deity housed within this temple, is thought to grant the wishes of devotees who approach with pure hearts, earning it its respected title of Manokamna Temple. According to ancient Indian mythology, Mahavir Hanuman is an incarnation of the Rigvedic god Rudra who assisted Lord Ram during his journey and gave unwavering strength to Arjuna's chariot during Dwapara Yuga battles involving Arjuna himself! As worshippers follow this divine belief, devotees flock to Mahavir Mandir seeking blessings or solace within his presence.
