From inauguration to restoration
Mahatma Gandhi Setu was inaugurated in 1982 by the former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, amidst great fanfare and anticipation. Its construction spanned over a decade of meticulous planning and tireless effort. Each towering pylon, graceful arc, and inch of weathered concrete tells a story of perseverance, of the unwavering belief that great things can be achieved through collective determination.
Yet, time took its toll, and heavy traffic and relentless congestion marred the bridge's once-pristine surface. But in 2017, a new chapter began, as the current Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, ordered the restoration of this cherished landmark. As the work progresses, the Mahatma Gandhi Setu seems poised to reclaim its rightful place, standing tall as a symbol of progress for the state of Bihar and its people.
