Adventure through a swampy wonderland

At the confluence of the Brahmaputra and the Lohit rivers, a beautiful biosphere reserve, encompassing Salix swamps, tropical forests, deciduous woodlands, and grasslands lies in wait.

Welcome to the Dibru Saikhowa National Park, a lush haven considered one of the world's top 19 biodiversity hot spots! It is located about 12 km north of Tinsukia town and covers a massive area of 425 sq km.

Come and embark on an adventurous journey where you'll encounter many endangered species of animals and birds. Perhaps the most famous species among them all are the white-winged wood duck and the majestic Feral horses. Since the park is a breeding ground for migratory birds, you will also encounter beauties like the elegant greater adjutant stork, the graceful Asian openbill stork, and the majestic, black-necked stork!

Apart from migratory and endangered bird species, the park is also home to several primate species, such as the Assamese macaque, the rhesus macaque, and the slow loris. One of the park's most captivating features is its extensive swamp forests, where several reptiles and amphibians live. If you're lucky, you may even spot Gangetic dolphins in the river near the park, elevating your experience.

Each of these creatures adds a stroke of magnificence to the natural canvas of this fascinating park, where wonders await at every turn, ready to ignite your spirit of adventure.

The giant Kekjori tree

Another beautiful feature within the park is floating hotels or houseboats for a cosy stay, as it takes more than a day to explore the beauty of this massive park.

Unlike other parks and sanctuaries that offer jeep safaris, Dibru Saikhowa National Park offers a motorboat safari, which is an unmissable experience. The motorboat stops at several points within the park and will bring you face-to-face with one of the park's most incredible sights.

While sailing across the park's swamps, you will come across the massive Kekjori tree that occupies the entirety of a small island! This tree is over a hundred years old, and its sprawling maze of roots and branches creates a sight that's spooky enough to be featured in a horror flick!

But the delights don't end there. Enhancing your journey are additional surprises, such as a picturesque tea garden and the allure of floating hotels or houseboats, each adding a touch of comfort and charm to your wilderness escapade.

A commitment to conserve

The park is a significant research and conservation centre for nature enthusiasts, with ongoing projects dedicated to safeguarding its unique ecosystem and preserving its precious flora and fauna. Fascinatingly, this park was created to conserve the habitat of the white-winged wood duck.

Throughout its expanse, you'll also encounter the Mishing and Deori tribes, who have lived in harmony with the park's ecosystem for centuries. The Mishing and Deori tribes have cultivated a profound understanding of the park's delicate balance, and their traditional practices reflect their respect for nature. Their thoughtful forest management practices ensure the preservation of this vital resource, while their coexistence with wildlife demonstrates a profound respect for the creatures that share their home.

Tinsukia, known for its tea gardens, coal mines, and scenic charm, will captivate you with its unique offerings. You can also visit the Sri Jagannath Temple, a stunning temple that is a beautiful replica of its counterpart in Odisha. And, of course, no trip is complete without visiting the Bogibeel Bridge, the largest railroad bridge in India.

As you set foot in the enchanting world of Dibru Saikhowa National Park, you'll discover a treasure trove of nature's gifts, offering an unforgettable experience that will linger in your heart for years.
